Bataan 3rd District Representative Gila Garcia announced that House Bill (HB) 9601, also known as the “Bataan High School for Sports Act”, has been approved by the Senate Committee on Basic Education, in a joint session with the Committees on Higher, Technical, and Vocational Education, and Finance. The announcement came following the committee’s approval on September 4, led by Senator Win Gatchalian.
The “Bataan High School for Sports” aims to establish a National High School in Bataan that will focus on nurturing and developing young athletes. The institution is envisioned to hone the skills of students with athletic potential, preparing them to become world-class sports competitors. The school will offer a balanced curriculum, integrating academic education with specialized sports training. The goal is to promote both intellectual and physical growth among students, helping them excel in both academics and athletics.
Congresswoman Garcia expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Senator Gatchalian, DepEd Central Director Gemma Ledesma, National Academy of Sports (NAS) Prof. Josephine Reyes, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Dr. Lauro Domingo, DepEd Bataan Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Carolina Violeta, and DepEd Bataan Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Armando Capili for their full support and approval of the bill.
HB 9601 represents a significant step forward in the development of young athletes in the country, ensuring that those with talent are provided with the necessary resources and training to reach their full potential on the global stage.
